                              RESOLUTION NO. 21489
                
                
                 A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE NOMINATION OF THE
                 TENNESSEE RIVER FOR DESIGNATION AS AN AMERICAN
                 HERITAGE RIVER.
                
                
                                                    
                
                
       	    	 WHEREAS, the American Heritage Rivers Initiative seeks
       to restore and revitalize America's rivers and the communities
       through which they flow; and,
       	    	 WHEREAS, the American Heritage Rivers Initiative will
       help marshal federal resources in support of local projects which 

       promote historic preservation, environmental protection and
       economic development; and,
       	    	 WHEREAS, this is a voluntary initiative with no new
       regulatory requirements for property owners or local government;
       and,
       	    	 WHEREAS, ten rivers will be designated nationwide to
       serve as models of the most innovative, successful and 
sustainable
       approaches to river restoration and community revitalization;
                                NOW, THEREFORE,
       	    	 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
       CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That the City of Chattanooga joins with
       Hamilton County, Knox County, the City of Knoxville, and other
       East Tennessee communities in nominating the Tennessee River for
       designation as an American Heritage River, and we hereby pledge

       program.
